Performers of the Week Announced in Six Sports

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The American Rivers Conference announced that Simpson College men’s basketball player Conor Riordan (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny) and University of Dubuque women’s track and field athlete Alison Beeman (Lakemoor, Ill./Wauconda) have been named American Rivers Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, February 23, 2020. The Conference also announced Performers of the Week in baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s indoor track & field, and men’s tennis.


Female Athlete of the Week – Indoor Track & Field - Track – Performer of the Week14053
Alison Beeman, University of Dubuque
Sr., Lakemoor, Ill./Wauconda
  • Dubuque hosted the Spartan Invite on Friday, February 21, where Beeman helped UD to a second-place team finish with 138.5 points.
  • Beeman edged out the defending national champion by .01 seconds to win the 200-meter dash (24.49 seconds), setting a new facility and school record.
  • The senior’s 200-meter time now stands first in NCAA Division III this season and ranks No. 10 all-time in NCAA Division III history.
  • She would also collect a third-place finish in the 55-meter dash with a time of 07.10 out of 26 competitors.
  • The time broke a 10-year old school record and sits seventh in NCAA Division III.
  • In addition to her efforts on the track, she placed second in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.62 meters (5’3.75”).
  • This is the third career Indoor Track Performer of the Week nod for Beeman (2/24/19, 12/9/19, 1/28/19).

 
Male Athlete of the Week – Men’s Basketball – Player of the Week14257
Conor Riordan, Simpson College
Sr., G, Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny
  • Simpson went 2-0 last week to secure a spot in the A-R-C Tournament for the fifth consecutive season, defeating sixth-ranked Nebraska Wesleyan (86-59) and Buena Vista (85-72).
  • The Storm will enter this year’s A-R-C tournament as the No. 5 seed.
  • Riordan averaged 22 points on the week, along with five assists.
  • The senior scored his 500th point of the season in the win over Buena Vista Saturday night.
  • In the upset win over No. 6 Nebraska Wesleyan, Riordan dropped 23 points and collected seven rebounds to hand the Prairie Wolves their first conference loss in 20 contests.
  • In the must-win game for the Storm against the Beavers, Riordan scored 21 points along with five assists to clinch a spot in the tournament.
  • This is Riordan’s second career Player of the Week award, both coming this season (2/24/20, 11/25/19).

 
Baseball – Pitcher of the Week14264
Mason Gehling, Buena Vista University
Fr., RHP, Chandler, Ariz./Higley
  • Buena Vista began their 2020 campaign sweeping Hamline in a three-game set (9-8, 16-5, 4-2).
  • Gehling made his collegiate debut against the Pipers in the Beavers 16-5 win, going 5.0 strong innings.
  • The freshman picked up his first career win, while only allowing one run, striking out six, and only walking two batters.
  • This is the Chandler, Ariz. native’s first career Pitcher of the Week accolade.

 
Baseball – Position Player of the Week14263
Nick Henrichs, Buena Vista University
Jr., P/DH, Omaha, Neb./Westside
  • Henrichs led the Beavers with a .429 batting average in the opening three-game weekend series sweep of Hamline.
  • He led the team with six hits on the weekend, four of which were extra base hits.
  • With the score tied in the ninth inning of the series’ first game, Henrichs led off with a double and scored in walk-off fashion one batter later.
  • In game three, the junior hit the go-ahead two-run home run in the fourth inning.
  • The junior is the early A-R-C leader in average and base hits.
  • This is Henrichs’ second career Position Player of the Week nod (2/24/20, 5/13/19).

 
Women’s Basketball – Player of the Week14259
Jackie Feldt, Coe College
Jr., G, West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley
  • Feldt helped the Kohawks to a 1-1 record last week, while helping them secure the No.4-seed in this year’s A-R-C tournament.
  • The junior guard scored 25 points in Coe’s 71-57 win over Dubuque while adding seven boards, four assists, two blocks and one steal.
  • She was on fire from the floor against UD, shooting 7-of-10 from the floor, 1-of-2 from downtown and 10-of-10 from the free-throw line.
  • She then posted 21 points, six boards, three assists, two blocks and one steal in the overtime loss at Luther on Saturday. 
  • This is Feldt’s first career Player of the Week accolade.

 
Men’s Indoor Track & Field – Field – Performer of the Week14141
Joshua Seymour, Coe College
Sr., Des Moines, Iowa/Dowling Catholic
  • Seymour helped Coe to a fourth-place team finish at the Wartburg College Invite last weekend.
  • The senior thrower, who set the school record earlier this season, came up just short of his own record in the shot put but still took home the title, recording a toss of 15.74m, just .02m shy of the record.
  • He also picked up a first-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 17.16m, a personal best by .12m.
  • Seymour currently ranks 28th on the NCAA Division III qualifying list in the shot put (15.76m) and 31st in the weight throw (17.16m).
  • This is Seymour’s second career Field Performer of the Week (2/24/20, 1/20/20).

 
Men’s Indoor Track & Field - Track – Performer of the Week14143
Patrick Mikel, Loras College
Sr., Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East
  • Mikel helped the Duhawks to a first-place team finish at the Spartan Invitational on Friday, February 21, finishing with 138.5 points, 15.17 points ahead of second-place Dubuque.
  • Mikel recorded a time of 21.99 in the 200-meter dash, breaking the facility and program records, and his own personal best.
  • His 200-meter dash time sits third among all NCAA Division III competitors.
  • The senior was the lead off leg for the 4x400-meter relay team (Mikel, Josh Smith, Carter Oberfoell, and Mike Jasa) that bested their previously nation-leading time with a new time of 3:16.95.
  • The 4x400-meter relay team won the event and sits second all-time in Loras program history.
  • This is the eighth Indoor Track Performer of the Week accolade for Mikel (2/24/20, 2/10/20, 1/20/20, 2/25/19, 1/28/19, 12/10/18, 2/4/18).

 
Women’s Indoor Track & Field - Field – Performer of the Week14261
Michelle Budden, Loras College
Sr., Hazel Green, Wis./Southwestern
  • Budden and the Sixth-ranked Duhawks won the Spartan Invite Friday, February 21 with 205 points, 66.5 points ahead of second-place Dubuque.
  • The senior won the weight throw with a toss of 17.61m, which is the second farthest throw in program history and ranks ninth in NCAA Division III this season.
  • Her mark bested second place by 1.33m and broker her previous personal best of 16.90m.
  • Budden’s toss of 17.61m will be the top seed in this weekend’s A-R-C Indoor Track and Field Championships.  
  • This is the first career Field Performer of the Week honor for Budden.

 
Men’s Tennis – Player of the Week14260
Nate Greiner, Coe College
Sr., Polk City, Iowa/North Polk
  • The Coe Kohawks went 2-0 on the weekend defeating Wheaton (7-2) and conference opponent Simpson (9-0).
  • Greiner went 4-0 on the weekend across singles and doubles.
  • At No.2 singles, he defeated Wheaton’s Jeremiah Yi (6-2, 6-2).
  • On the doubles side against Wheaton, Greiner and Tyler Nelson defeated Jeremiah Yi and Jack Wenzel (8-6) at the No.2 spot.
  • Against the Storm, Greiner and Jordan Oaks teamed up at No.3 doubles, defeating Aaron Price and Caleb Vasconez (8-0).
  • At No.1 singles, Greiner blanked Simpson’s Reade Reiter (6-0, 6-0).
  • Greiner improves to 5-2 in singles and 6-0 in doubles on the season.
  • This is the senior’s first career Player of the Week honor.
