Simpson's Anna Wanek Named A-R-C Athlete of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) announced that Simpson College women’s tennis player Anna Wanek (Urbandale, Iowa/Dowling Catholic) has been named American Rivers Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, October 18, 2020.

  • Wanek takes home Female Athlete of the Week honors after winning the 2020 American Rivers Conference Women’s Tennis Individual A-Singles flight.
  • The A-Singles final featured top-seeded Wanek of Simpson, and second-seeded Devon Bourget of Luther.
  • Wanek earned the top seed after a thrilling win over Bourget in the regular season dual (2-6,6-4,17-15).  
  • The duo put on a show once again in the championship match, with Bourget winning the first set 6-2, but Wanek flipping the script in set two, winning 6-2.
  • The super breaker saw Wanek earn the gold medal by a score of 10-3.
  • Wanek advanced to the finals after defeating Kylie Dunning of Luther in the quarterfinals (6-0, 6-0) and upending Luther’s third-seeded Shelby Cook (7-5, 6-3) in the semifinals.
  • Wanek is collecting her third Athlete of the Week / Player of the Week accolade for the Storm (10/19/20, 10/5/20, 9/28/20).
