Wartburg Sweeps Titles at A-R-C Outdoor Track & Field Meet

Pella, Iowa -- Both American Rivers Conference trophies are on their way back to Waverly, Iowa as the Wartburg women and men swept the team titles at the 2019 A-R-C Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Knights won the women's championship for the 21st time overall and the 18th time in the last 19 years. Wartburg's men's championship was its ninth all-time and the second time in the last three years.

It's hard to get a closer margin of victory than Wartburg's half-point win over second-place Nebraska Wesleyan. The Knights totaled 188.5 points to the P-Wolves' 188.0 points. Third place went to Loras with 161 points with Dubuque a close fourth at 157.5 points. The Knights' men easily out-distanced second-place Dubuque by a 197-144 margin. Nebraska Wesleyan finished third and was just one point better than Loras with a 125-124 advantage.

Several meet records fell over the long weekend. Loras's Patrick Mikel (Jr., Lombard, Ill.) lowered the meet record in the 400m with a time of 46.92 seconds. It was also the best time Division III heading into the last-chance meets next week and the NCAA championships a week later. Loras's Bella Solis (Sr., Bettendorf, Iowa) took nearly a second off the meet mark in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.88. Dubuque's Alison Beeman (Jr., Lakemoor, Ill.) and Gabrielle Noland (Jr., Rockford, Ill.) both beat the 100-meter dash record by .01 with times of 11.93. Beeman got the win on the photo finish. Wartburg's Dallas Wright (So., Carlisle, Iowa) set a new meet record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.30. Blaze Murfin (Sr., Dallas City, Ill.) established a new league record in the hammer with a throw of 59.16 meters.

Last-chance meets are up next weekend for selected athletes, followed by the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 23-25 in Geneva, Ohio.
