# 2016 Offensive MVP

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa --- The American Rivers Conference announced today that Loras College junior forward Brynn Jacobi (Roscoe, Ill./Hovonegah) has been selected as the league's Offensive MVP and Loras College senior defender Taylor Trovato (Long Island, N.Y./Lindenhurst) was named Defensive MVP. Simpson College head coach Jeremy Reinert, assistants Marcus Varnum, Mackenzie Stump, and Joe Waithanji were voted American Rivers Coaching Staff of the Year. In addition to the major awards, the conference announced the 22-member All-Conference team. 

Jacobi is earning her second all-conference honor, in addition to being named honorable mention as a first year. The junior midfielder becomes the fourth Duhawk to receive Offensive MVP accolades, joining Gretchen Schutz (2018), Elizabeth Mills (2016), and Katie Truesdale (2014, 2015). Prior to the MVP award being split to recognize an offensive and defensive standout in 2013, Loras had three players named conference MVP. In 2019, Jacobi finished conference play as the points leader at 18, coming by way of seven goals and four assists. Her seven goals were also a conference best. 

Trovato joins former Duhawk, Kinsey Campbell (2013) as the only other player to have received Defensive MVP honors for Loras. The senior defender was part of a defensive unit that finished conference play ranked number one in the league with a .375 goals-against average. The Loras back line allowed a conference-best three goals in eight games. 

In just his second year at the helm of the Simpson women’s soccer program, Reinert help guide the Storm to a six-match turnaround from a season ago, finishing with a 10-4-5 overall mark and a 4-2-2 conference record. The 2019 Simpson women's soccer team were the first to reach the conference tournament since 2013 and first to hit the 10-win mark since 2011. This year’s squad scored 11 more goals than a year ago, with 26. Additionally, this year’s team allowed just 12 goals, bettering last year’s number by 27. Reinert and assistants Varnum,  Stump, and Waithanji are the third cohort to claim Coaching Staff of the Year honors for Simpson (1999, 2006).

The Duhawks, winners of the 2019 American Rivers Conference regular-season title, saw four players named All-Conference in addition to Jacobi and Trovato. Third year forward, Kiki Cabrera (Waterloo, Iowa/Columbus), picked up her second All-Conference accolade. She finished conference play with .500 shots on goal percentage. Ryleigh O’Brien (Hampton, Ill/United Township), a second year forward for Loras was voted to the All-Conference team for the first time in 2019. The Hampton, Ill. native finished eight conference games with four goals and four assists, tying for third in the conference with 12 points. Her four goals tied for third in the league standings.

First year Duhawks, Abby Eriksen (Crystal Lake, Ill/Prairie Ridge) and Payton McDonnell (Arlington Heights, Ill./St. Viator) were also selected to this year’s All-Conference team. From the forward position, Eriksen ranked second in the league with 14 points during conference play. Her six goals were second best in the league and her two assists tied for eighth. McDonnell tallied 12 points during conference action, tying her with teammate, O’Brien. The first-year midfielder recorded two goals and dished out a conference best eight assists.

American Rivers Conference regular-season and tournament runner-up, Wartburg also placed six players on this year’s All-Conference squad. Senior defender, Zoey Campbell (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) led the way for the Knights, making her second All-Conference team in addition to earning honorable mention recognition her first two seasons. Campbell was also voted Defensive MVP a season ago. In 2019 she was part of a Knights defense that held the league’s second-best goals-against average at .608. Sarah Campbell (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock), also part of the Knight’s defense, as a second-year defender, is making her first All-Conference team. Playing in all eight conference matches, S. Campbell scored one goal and provided five assists.

After picking up honorable mention recognition a season ago, second year Wartburg defender, Hailey Osburn (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny) makes this year’s 22-member All-Conference team. Osburn tallied two goals in 721 minutes of conference action. Fellow second year teammates, Kate Luers (Middletown, Iowa/Danville) and Joy Smith (Polk City, Iowa/Homeschooled) received the All-Conference nod. Luers, a midfielder for the Knights, scored nine points with four goals and one assist in league play to rank eighth in the conference standings. From the forward position, Smith compiled 10 points on four goals and two assists to rank seventh in the conference. Two of Smith’s goals went down as game-winners. The Knight’s sixth All-Conference honoree is first year midfielder/defender, Gabby Corday (Denver, Iowa/Denver). Corday scored two goals and added an assist in 663 minutes of conference play.

Dubuque had four players receive All-Conference honors in 2019, with three of the four picking up honors for at least the second time in their careers. Now a three-time All-Conference honoree and the 2017 Defensive Player of the Year, Carissa Brown (Oswego, Ill/Oswego) leads the way for the Spartans. The third-year defender helped UD’s back line allow only 11 goals in conference play for a 1.304 goals-against average. Alexa Martin (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Prairie) is also collecting her third All-Conference honor, in addition receiving honorable mention recognition in her first collegiate season. As a defensive midfielder, Martin dealt eight assists in conference play, tying for first in the league. Picking up one of two goalkeeper spots on the All-Conference team is third-year Victoria Roethler (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson). Roethler was also voted All-Conference in 2017 and received honorable mention recognition in 2018. Playing 708.23 minutes in goal during conference play, Roethler owned a 1.270 goals-against average, tallied 26 saves and pitched two shutouts. After earning honorable mention in 2017, senior midfielder, Amanda Chlebek (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) is UD’s fourth All-Conference honoree. Chlebek tied for third in the league with four goals, one of which was a game winner for the Spartans.  

Earning All-Conference for Simpson are Emma Fleddermann (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County) and Rachel Neumann (Grimes, Iowa/Dallas Center). Fleddermann, a senior defender for the Storm, aided a defensive unit that ranked third in goals-against average (.711) and goals allowed (6). Second year keeper, Neumann, spent 741.03 minutes in the net during conference play, allowing just six goals while coming up with 46 saves. Her save percentage of .885 was number one in the league.

Picking up her third-straight All-Conference accolade is Coe College’s Sydney Schroder (Iowa City, Iowa/City High). The third year forward fired a league best 19 shots on goal while connecting on four. She added three assists to bring her conference point total to 11, tying her for fifth in the league standings. Kohawk senior midfielder Morgan Petsche (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) moves to the 22-member All-Conference team this season after earning honorable mention a year ago. Petsche scored three goals and added one assist in eight league games. Her seven points tied for 12^th in the conference.

Senior midfielder, Lizzy DePrenger (Iowa City, Iowa/Regina) of Luther is earning her first All-Conference honor in 2019. DePrenger placed six of 19 shots on goal in her senior season. In addition, she added two assists during league play.

Nebraska Wesleyan’s Kaitlyn Sullivan (Longmont, Colo./Skyline) is on the All-Conference team for the second straight season. The senior forward also picked up honorable mention honors her first two seasons. In her final season for the Prairie Wolves, Sullivan scored two goals in eight conference games, with one game winner.
