Dubuque, Iowa -- After day one of the 2018 NCAA Wrestling Lower Midwest Regional, 28 wrestlers from the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) have advanced to the championship semifinals and 21 remain alive in the consolation quarterfinals. The top three wrestlers at each of the 10 weight classes qualify for the 2018 NCAA Division III National Wrestling Championship, held March 9 -10 at the Cleveland Public Auditorium in Cleveland, OH.
When 28 of the 40 semifinal spots are filled with IIAC wrestlers there are bound to be some conference matchups. 197lbs will have an all Iowa Conference semifinal while 141lbs, 184lbs and 285lbs. will have two wrestlers in the semifinals. The two IIAC wrestlers in the semis at 184lbs. will square of against each other while the two at 141lbs. and 285lbs. are on the opposite side of the bracket. The other six weight classes have three IIAC wrestlers in the semis meaning their will be one half of the bracket with two Iowa Conference wrestlers competing for a spot in the championship bout.
125lbs. semifinals will see
CJ Pestano of Central wrestling Devon Jackson from the University of the Ozarks and
Brennen Doebel of Wartburg wrestling
Brock Henderson of Coe.
133lbs. semifinals will feature
Brock Rathbun of Wartburg versus
Kyle Clough of Luther and Simpson's
John Gioffredi squaring off against Brendan Gould of Augustana.
141lbs. semifinal matchups will see
Kevin Kelly of Loras taking on Josh Martin of Cornell and on the bottom half
Dan Radcliffe of Central will take on Chris Williams of Millikin.
149lbs. semifinals top half of the bracket will have Wartburg's
Cross Cannone wrestling Brandan Brit of Millikin and on the lower half Loras'
Jimmy Davis will take on Coe's
Levi Azinger.
157lbs. semifinals will pit Wartburg's
Logan Thomsen against North Central's Egan Berta and Coe's
Cole Erickson against Dubuque's
Quincy Kalkbrenner.
165lbs.semifinals will see
Mike Ross of Wartbrug taking on
Jeremy Vester of Central and
Eddie Smith of Loras facing Ben Hewson of Cornell.
174lbs. semifinals will see the only returning National Champion in the field,
Eric DeVos of Wartburg squaring off with Matt Marcotte of North Central and
Nathan Fritz of Central wrestling
Jake Voss of Coe.
184lbs.semifinals top half of the bracket will have
Tyler Lutes of Wartburg going up against
Awais Arain of Loras and the bottom half will have Jeajion Jennings of Millikin wrestling Christos Giatras of Augustana.
197lbs.all IIAC semifinal will see Wartburg's
Kyle Fank wrestle Dubuque's
Ethan Cain and
DC Scott of Simpson taking on
Guy Patron Jr. of Loras.
285lbs. semifinals will have
Lance Evans of Wartburg wrestling Tyler Ortmann of Cornell on the top half of the bracket and Loras
Quin Gilliam wrestling Emonte Logan on the bottom half.
The tournament resumes Sunday, February 25 at the Five Flags Center in Dubuque, Iowa with championship semifinals at 11:00 a.m. First-, third- and fifth-place matches are slated to begin at 2:30 p.m.
