LA CROSSE, WIS. - The Wartburg College women's soccer team (13-6-1 overall, 6-1-1 A-R-C) bowed out of the 2018 NCAA Division III tournament with a first-round loss to No. 23 ranked UW-La Crosse (18-2-2 overall, 6-0-1 WIAC).
UW-La Crosse, playing on their home field of Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex, for their third NCAA tournament appearance put an early goal on the board in the 3rd-minute. Natalie Herzog found the back of the net for the Eagles, and Kaitlyn Villars provided the assist.
Wartburg, making their seventh overall and second-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament battled hard but surrendered a second goal in the 72nd-minute. UWL's Margaret Harings but goal number two up for the Eagles, with the corner kick assist coming from Hannah Beech.
The Knight's
Emily Fontana had a team-high five shots, while
Nicole Adair fired four. Wartburg placed five of their 13 total shots, on goal, while UWL fired 15 shots, placing four on goal.
With the win UW-La Crosse advances to the second-round game tomorrow, where they will face University of St. Thomas at 1:00 p.m.
