Loras & Wartburg Advance to A-R-C Women's Soccer Tournament Championship

Cedar Rapids, Iowa -- Top seeded Loras College (15-3 overall, 7-1 A-R-C) and second seeded Wartburg College (13-4-1 overall, 6-1-1 A-R-C) advanced to the 2018 American Rivers Conference Women's Soccer tournament championship match. 

The Duhawks eliminated fourth seeded Dubuque (14-4-1 overall, 5-2-1 A-R-C) with a 3-2 victory on their home pitch. For Loras is was Kiki Cabrera putting up the first goal of the game in the 4th-minute. Gretchen Schutz provided the assist on the goal. The goal was Cabrera's sixth of the season. At the 7:33 mark Dubuque's Lauren Cangelosi found the back of the net on a penalty kick for her eighth goal of the season. Loras' Ryleigh O'Brien got the lead back for the Duhawks in the 59th-minute off a Grace Ross assist. Just four minutes later Dubuque's Lexus Rose tied the game at two all on a penalty kick. Jenny Wick of Loras recorded the game winner on a penalty kick in the 66th-minute. 

Loras held the advantage in shots 21 to 11, placing nine on goal to Dubuque's four. Corner kicks were even at six all. Loras' winning goalie was Kaylee Coble. Coble played all 90 minutes, picking up two saves and allowing to goals. UD's Victoria Roethler also played 90 minutes in goal. Roethler provided UD with six saves and gave up three goals. 

With a 2-0 win on their home pitch, Wartburg bounced No.3 Luther (7-8-3 overall, 6-2 A-R-C) from this year's tournament. At the 21:11 mark Wartburg's Nicole Adair sent one just over the goalie for the first score of the game. The goal was assisted by Molly Close. Alyssa Drewelow extended the Knight's lead to 2-0 with what would be the final goal of the game at 47:05. Adair assisted on the game's final goal. 

Shots were in favor of Wartburg, 16 to 14 and the Knights placed 10 on goal to Luther's five. Corner kicks finished two a piece. Wartburg's Marissa Lopez tallied five saves in 90 minutes of work to collect the win. Luther's Kennedy Bergren came up with eight saves for the Norse and allowed two goals in 90 minutes. 

The Duhawks and Knights now face off for the A-R-C's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championships. The A-R-C Championship match will be played Saturday, November 3 at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. Start time has not been set.
