CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced that Wartburg College Women’s Golfer
Brooke Klostermann (Dyersville, Iowa / Beckman) and Buena Vista University football player
TJ Lint (Perry, Iowa / Greene County) have been named Iowa Conference Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, October 8th. The IIAC also announced Performers of the Week in cross country, Women's golf, football, soccer, Women’s tennis, and volleyball.
Male Athlete of the Week – Football – Offensive Player of the Week
TJ Lint, Buena Vista University
Sr., WR, Perry, Iowa / Greene County
- The Beavers, now 3-2 on the season, have matched their win-total from 2016.
- Lint hauled in a game-high 12 catches and 191 yards.
- Had two big catches on the game-winning drive; the second of those went for 15 yards and put BVU inside the 10-yard line.
- His receiving yards total of 191 yards receiving is the most in any game by an IIAC player this season.
- With 126 career catches for 1,900 yards, Lint is fourth all-time at BV in both categories.
Female Athlete of the Week – Women’s Golf – Golfer of the Week
Brooke Klostermann, Wartburg College
Jr., Dyersville, Iowa / Beckman
- Klostermann claimed medalist and MVP honors at the 2017 Iowa Conference Women’s Golf Championship.
- She shot a four-round total of 296 (75-75-71-75).
- Her 72-hole mark of 296 is a new Iowa Conference record.
- Klostermann and the Knights captured their 12th team title in program history and head coach Greg Bodensteiner was selected as Coach of the Year.
- Now a twelve-time golfer of the week (10/9/17, 10/1/17, 9/17/17, 9/10/17, 9/3/17, 10/2/16, 9/25/16, 9/19/16, 9/11/16, 9/4/16, 9/6/15, 9/13/15)
- 2015 & 2016 All-Iowa Conference: 2nd Place
Football - Defensive Player of the Week
Ryan Lehr, Simpson College
So., SS, Indianola, Iowa / Indianola
- The Storm continue their resurgent season and are now 3-3 overall and 2-2 IIAC (tie 3rd).
- Lehr’s 98-yard INT return for a TD in the 4th quarter sealed the win for Simpson.
- The touchdown put Simpson up, 31-13, on Homecoming Saturday at Loras.
- The play is tied for the 4th-longest INT return in DIII this season.
- Lehr is tied for second in the conference with four interceptions
Football – Special Teams Player of the Week
Cory Wirth, Luther College
Sr., PK/P, Maquoketa, Iowa / Maquoketa
- Luther’s very strong first half has the Norse in a first-place tie in the standings at 3-0 (4-1 OA).
- Wirth kicked the game winning 25-yard field goal in overtime to defeat NWU, 41-38.
- He was also 5-for-5 on PATs.
- Wirth’s four punts went for an average of 43.2 yards with a long of 54 and two inside the 20
- Had 7 kickoffs for an average 59 yards and one touchback.
- Luther’s start is its best since 1990
Men’s Cross Country - Runner of the Week
Mason Tope, Loras College
Sr., Davenport, Iowa / Davenport Central
- The Duhawks march on in preparation for defense of their 2016 conference title.
- Tope won the Loras Invitational, crossing 34 seconds ahead of the second-place runner.
- Tope finished sixth at the 2016 Iowa Conference championships to earn All-Conference honors.
- In 2015, he earned all-conference honors after finishing 4th at the conference meet.
- This is Tope’s third Runner of the Week honor (10/9/17, 9/17/17, 9/3/17).
Women’s Cross Country - Runner of the Week
Kristan Brown, Loras College
Fr., Dubuque, Iowa / Hempstead
- The Duhawks are looking to reclaim the conference championship they won in 2015.
- Brown, just a first-year performer was second at the Loras Invitational.
- Her time of 24 minutes, 56 second was tops among “attached” runners.
- She was 1:24 behind an unattached, non-NCAA runner
- Loras won the team championship at the event with an outstanding low score of 17.
Men’s Soccer – Offensive Player of the Week
Tanner Alderson, Simpson College
So., F, Parkville, Mo. / Park Hill South
- The Storm are 13-0-1 overall and are just one of nine Division III teams without a loss.
- Anderson scored two game-winners and three overall in a 3-0 week (2-0 in IIAC play).
- The game-winning tally against Nebraska Wesleyan was a header with 47 seconds left.
- He has an IIAC-leading 14 goals this season.
- This is Alderson’s third Offensive Player of the Week honor (10/9/17, 9/17/17, 9/3/17).
Men’s Soccer – Defensive Player of the Week
Brandon White, University of Dubuque
Fr., GK, Minooka, Ill. / Minooka
- The Spartans are tied with Wartburg for second place in the conference standings (2-1-1).
- White Finished with 12 saves vs. Wartburg in the 2-2 tie.
- Also made two saves vs. Coe in 68:20 in goal (3-0 win).
- The first-year player has a 1.50 goals-against average in conference matches.
Women’s Soccer - Offensive Player of the Week
Elizabeth Mills, Loras College
Jr., F, Brimfield, Ill. / Peoria Notre Dame
- Mills helped the Duhawks to a 2-0 record on the week with wins over Buena Vista and Luther.
- She brought her season point total to 23 (9-goals, 5-assists) and tallied her fourth and fifth game winning goals of the season, which is second in Division III
- Mills scored goals in each of Loras’ win last week and added one assist against Buena Vista.
- Leads the IIAC in points, points per game, goals, goals per game, and game winning goals.
- Mills is the reigning Iowa Conference Offensive Player of the Year
Women’s Soccer - Defensive Player of the Week
Victoria Roethler, University of Dubuque
Fr., GK, Cedar Rapids, Iowa / Jefferson
- Roethler helped lead the Spartans to a 1-0-1 week, tying Wartburg and beating Coe.
- On the week, Roethler played 200:00 minutes, surrendering just one goal and collecting 17 saves, 13 of which came against Wartburg.
- Roethler ranks second in the IIAC for saves with 29 and holds a .991 goal against average to rank 4th.
- This is Dubuque’s second Defensive Player of the Week honor this year and Roethler’s first.
Women’s Tennis - Player of the Week
Jackie Cychosz, Luther College
Sr., Apple Valley, Minn. / Eastview
- No. 1 doubles with partner Claire Christian posted 8-2 win over Kayla Reusche/Cassidy Biergrodt (Simpson)
- No. 1 doubles with Christian defeated Kari Grindberg/Karleigh Schilling (Central) 8-3.
- No. 1 singles defeated Ashley Maley (Central) 6-2, 6-1.
- Cychosz collected clinching point against Central that secured back-to-back IIAC championships for the Norse
- Cychosz and Christian finished IIAC doubles play undefeated at 6-0.
- This is the second Player of the week honor for Cychosz (10/9/17, 10/4/15).
Volleyball - Offensive Player of the Week
Serena Sandvig, Buena Vista University
Jr., OH, Boone, Iowa / Boone
- Sandvig helped lead the Beavers to a 3-0 record last week on her way to registering her first three double-digit kill outings of her career.
- Turned in a career-high 12 kills and had just one error during the sweep of Loras.
- Sandvig sas second on the team in total kills (33) for the week and had a team-leading .459 attack percentage.
- Buena Vista handed Dubuque just its second loss overall on the year and helped the Beavers into a tie for fourth in the IIAC standings with two matches to go.
- The last Buena Vista student-athlete to earn Offensive Player of the Week: Maddie Bardole (10/4/15).
Volleyball - Defensive Player of the Week
Jade Schaap, Buena Vista University
Sr., OH, Doon, Iowa / Western Christian
- Helped Buena Vista go 3-0 on the week and move into a tie for fourth in the IIAC with two matches to play.
- Schaap tied for second on the team with seven total blocks and was second in digs (30) and third in kills (32)
- She collected a double-double in the win over Dubuque with 13 kills and 17 digs to go along with a career-best six total blocks
- Sydnee Donnelli was the last Buena Vista student-athlete to earn Defensive Player of the Week (9/4/16).
- This is Schaap’s second Defensive Player of the Week accolade (10/9/17, 9/14/14).
- Schaap was an All-Iowa Conference selection in 2014 and 2015.
- She was named Freshman of the Year in 2014.
