Indoor Track & Field Championships Set for February 26-27

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The 2016 Iowa Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships will begin on Friday, February 26 and conclude on Saturday, February 27 from Lamberti Recreation Center (Dennis Young Track) on the campus of Buena Vista University. 

The 2016 IIAC Championships begin early on Friday with the Heptathlon (10:00 a.m.) and Pentathlon (10:15 a.m.) starting the days events. A trio of field events will begin at 4:00 p.m. with Pole Vault, Long Jump, and Shot Put getting underway. Action on the track begins at 6:00 p.m. with the 5,000m Run. 

Events begin on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with the Heptathlon, Weight Throw and Triple Jump. The first track event begins at 12:00 p.m. with the mile run. The final event of the championships is scheduled for 4:20 p.m. with the running of the men's 4x400m relay. 

The medal presentation will begin ASAP following the completion of the 4x400m relay.
 


Women's Preview:
Wartburg has won all 13 titles on the women's side since the championship began in 2003. The Knights best showing was in 2012 when they scored an IIAC record 317 points. In 2015 Wartburg won the title with 220 points. Central was the runner-up with 153 points while Dubuque finished third with 98 points. Loras rounds out the top-four with 93 points followed by Luther and their 86.5 points. Coe was sixth with 34 points, Simpson was seventh with 30.5 points and Buena Vista took eighth with 25 points. 

Returning 2015 Champions: Abigail Davis (Central) - 60m dash, 200m dash, Women's Track MVP; Maddie Kleve (Wartburg) - 1 mile run; Elizabeth Brandenburg (Loras) - pole vault; Ashlee Downs (Central) - long jump; 

2014 Champions: Abigail Davis (Central) - 55m dash; Tricia Serres (Luther) - 1 mile run; Kailey Kladivo (Wartburg) - high jump; Elizabeth Brandenburg (Loras) - pole vault; 

2013 Champions: Tricia Serres (Luther) - 1 mile run; 

Men's Preview:
Wartburg and Central tied for the 2015 title with 176 points. Of the 13 championships, Wartburg has earned 7 solo titles and shared two other championships for a total of nine championships. Central has earned two out-right titles and one shared. Loras won the title in 2007 and shared the title with Wartburg in 2005. Following the Knights/Central co-title was Dubuque in third with 131 points. Loras took fourth with 91 points. Coe was fifth with 63 followed by Luther in sixth, Buena Vista in seventh, and Simpson in eighth.
