CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa --- Goals proved hard to come by Wednesday night as a total of five goals were scored in four games during the semifinal round of the 2013 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Soccer Tournaments.
On the men's side, top-seeded Loras outlasted fourth-ranked Simpson and second-seeded Wartburg avenged last week's loss to third-seeded Luther, both by 1-0 scores.
The top-seeded Loras women posted a 2-0 shutout over fourth-seeded Wartburg, while No. 3-seeded Dubuque pulled the first upset of the tournament thus far, dispatching No. 2-seeded Luther 1-0.
Men

At Waverly, the Knights exacted a small measure of revenge for last week's 1-0 double overtime loss to the Norse with a 1-0 double overtime victory of their own. Bob Brown converted a penalty kick in the 105th minute after Dan Nadeau drew a foul in the box from a Luther defender.
The Norse played a man down for nearly half the match after JW Slauson drew a second caution in the 55th minute still had a number of opportunities in the final minutes of regulation and in the first overtime, including a shot in the extra session that ricocheted off the crossbar.
Wartburg (15-3-2) outshot Luther (14-6-0), 15-9, with six finding the frame. Cade Shatzer (12-1-0) made a pair of saves en route to the win in goal for the Knights. His Luther counterpart, Tommy Breen, was credited with five saves.

At Dubuque, an unassisted goal from Erik Berkowitz in the 34th minute proved to be all that three-time defending tournament champion Loras would need to advance.
The Duhawks (16-1-2) outshot the Storm, 25-12, including 12-3 in the first half. Fourteen different Loras players registered a shot, led by three apiece from Tom Fluegel and Tim van den Bergh. Kyle Kusy and Mitchell White led Simpson with four shots each.
Dylan Milkent made seven saves for Loras. Luke Aronow and Zach McEntee each played a half in net for Simpson and made three shots each. The Storm (12-7-2) was also credited with a team save.
Women
No. 1 Loras def. No. 4 Wartburg, 2-0 [ Box Score ]
At Dubuque, Katie Truesdale scored in the 21st minute and Claire Murphy added an insurance goal in the 79th minute as the three-time defending tournament champion guaranteed itself of a chance to defend its title.
Hannah Wilson made one save for the Duhawks, who held a 19-9 shot advantage. Truesdale and Maddie Tennant were both credited with four shots.
Brinkly Werkman took four shots to lead Wartburg, while Sophie Perez was credited with a pair of saves.
No. 3 Dubuque def. No. 2 Luther, 1-0 [ Box Score ]
At Decorah, Katie Lynn scored off a Melanie Prudhomme assist in the 65th minute to give Dubuque a 1-0 win.
Luther (9-9-0) held a 15-12 shot advantage, launching 13 in the second half after behind held to just two shots in the first half. Melisse Chasse and Ellie Bunz had four shots each for the Norse.
Lynn and Megan Siepler led Dubuque (16-4-0) with three shots each. Tiffany Duncan made six saves and took the win in net.
Finals Set for Saturday at Rock Bowl
Wednesday's winners advance to Saturday's championship finals. As top seeds, the Loras women and men will host the games as a women's/men's doubleheader. The women's game will kickoff at 5 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 7:30 p.m.
