DUBUQUE, Iowa --- Loras College sophomore Richard Lenke scored with 53 seconds remaining in the first overtime session to give the Duhawks a 1-0 victory over Wartburg College and the 2013 Iowa Conference Men's Soccer Tournament championship.
Lenke headed in the game-winning goal after a long service into the box from Erik Berkowitz glanced off the head of a Wartburg defender.
The Duhawks outshot the Knights, 23-11, in the contest.
Kevin Cavers had eight shots for Loras, including four on goal, while Johnny Rummelhart added six and Lenke three. Dylan Milkent made four saves.
Wartburg was led by Paris Martins and Dan Nadeau, who had three shots apiece, including one each on goal.
Cade Shatzer made six saves for the Knights.
The win was also the 500th career victory (men's and women's combined) for Loras head coach Dan Rothert.
Loras (17-1-2) won its sixth IIAC tournament title overall and a fourth in succession. The Duhawks were the top-ranked team in this week's NCAA North Region rankings. Wartburg (15-4-2), which was ranked third in this week's regional rankings, must now hope for an at-large berth. The entire NCAA field will be announced Monday at NCAA.com.
