DUBUQUE, Iowa --- The Wartburg College women and Central College men both extended consecutive title streaks Saturday at the 2012 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the University of Dubuque.

Wartburg Sets Records En Route to Title
The Wartburg women totaled 353 points, winning 15 of 22 events and obliterating the old team scoring mark of 279 1/4 set by the Knights in 2008. Central took second with 116 1/2 points, just ahead of Loras (114 1/2) and Luther (112). It is Wartburg's 13th consecutive title and 16th title overall.

Wartburg twins Nevada and Skye Morrison swept Most Valuable Performer honors on the women's side. It is Skye's second outdoor MVP honor to go with her three indoor MVP honors. It is Nevada's first MVP award.

Nevada claimed the track award after winning the 800-meter run in a meet-record 2 minutes, 8.59 seconds, nearly three seconds faster than the time of 2:11.07 set by defending champion Keelie Finnel of Coe in Friday's preliminaries. She also won the 200 in a wind-aided 24.10 seconds after setting the conference mark with a 23.84 clocking in the prelims.

Skye Morrison won both the long jump and triple jump in Iowa Conference meet-record fashion. On Friday, she took the long jump with a leap of 6.49 meters (21-3 1/2), then added the triple jump Saturday with a mark of 12.56 meters (41-2 1/2) on her only legal jump. She erased the long jump mark of 19-9 3/4 set by Central's Katie Brees in 2000 and the triple jump mark of 39-3 3/4 set by Luther's Katie Pettigrew that same season.

She also won the 100-meter dash in 12.06 seconds to capture her first Iowa Conference individual title on the track and took second in the 200 (24.38).

The pair also figured into Wartburg's winning 4x100 relay. Skye ran the second leg, while Nevada was the anchor.

Wartburg coach Marcus Newsom was named Women's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year for the 13th consecutive season.

Other women's winners from Saturday's portion of the meet included Wartburg senior Faith Burt, who won the 400 for the fourth straight year (56.32), Simpson senior Catie Ellingson, who regaining the 1,500 title she won in 2010 after being forced to miss last season due to an injury (4:29.98) and Wartburg freshman Alana Enabnit, who added the 5,000-meter title to the 10,000 title she won Friday.

Wartburg sophomores Camesha Goods, Tashina McAllister and Sammi Bruett swept the hurdles titles as Goods (14.09) edged McAllister (14.17) for the 100-meter title, while McAllister took the 400-meter title in 1:01.91. Bruett won the 3,000 steeplechase in 10:38.13, 26 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor.

Burt and the Morrisons teamed with Sarah Boraas to win the 4x100 meter title in 48.14 while the Knights captured the 4x400 title and set a new league meet mark in the 4x800 with a time of 9:20.01.

Loras swept the vertical jumps. Katie Langmeier won the high jump Friday by clearing 5-3 3/4 and Rachel Kolbeck added the pole vault title Saturday by clearing 3.40 meters (11-1 3/4). Central's Morgan Darrow won both the shot put and hammer throw Friday, establishing a new meet record in the latter. Wartburg's Sarah Hoffmann won the discus throw with a throw of 42.18 meters (138-5) and, on Saturday, Central's Caitlin Wilson added the javelin title to her heptathlon title.

Central Captures Fourth Straight League Title
Central's men captured their fourth consecutive title, 15th overall and 14th crown since 1991 with 241 points. The Dutch outpaced Wartburg (208), while Loras (118) took third ahead of Luther (80).

Central swept the major awards on the men's side with senior Ethan Miller being named Most Valuable Field Performer, senior Allen Scovel being named Most Valuable Track Performer and head coach Joe Dunham being named Coach of the Year.

Miller, who picked up his fifth Iowa Conference MVP honor (indoor-2010 & 2011; outdoor-2010, 2011, 2012), won the triple jump (14.16 meters; 46-5 1/2), took second in the pole vault (4.60 meters; 15-1) and long jump (7.25 meters; 23-9 1/2), third in the high jump (2.05 meters; 6-8 3/4) and was 18th in the javelin throw (42.32 meters; 138-10). He also placed second in the 110-meter hurdles (14.61 seconds).

Scovel, who earned his first MVP honor, was the top qualifer in the 100-meter dash prelims and edged Dubuque's Davivorn Dowe in the final by seven-thousandths of a second (10.683-10.690) in the final for his second straight 100 title. He also finished second to Dowe in the 200 and anchored Central's 4x400-meter relay to a victory.

Loras' Josh Goerdt won the 400 in 47.83 after finishing second a year ago. Buena Vista freshman Seth Woodson won the 800 in 1:53.62 and Central freshman Eli Horton took both the 1,500 and 5,000. He won the 5K by 3.3 seconds over defending champion Scott Mittman of Luther. Simpson's Ryan Edwardson defended his 10,000-meter title, winning by nearly 10 seconds.

In the hurdles races, Larry Johnson of Wartburg (14.59) nipped defending champion Ethan Miller (14.61) at the line in the 110 highs and teammate MIke Koehler jumped to the top of the podium after finishing third a year ago in the 400 intermediate hurdles. Loras' Austin Steil won the 3,000 steeplechase in 9:38.94.

Central swept the relays, taking the 4x100 in 41.28, the 4x400 in 3:17.32, and the 4x800 in a record time of 7:54.13.

Two-time defending champion Jordan Sathoff of Wartburg took fifth.

Miller and another Knight, senior Tim Flores, both cleared 4.60 meters (15-1) in the pole vault, but Flores claimed the title due to fewer misses. Miller was the two-time defending champion in the event.

Elusme and Miller traded 1-2 finishes in the long jump and triple jump. Elusme went a wind-aided 7.71 meters (25-3 1/2) to outdistance Miller, a two-time defending champion in this event as well, by 18 inches. In the triple jump, Miller was able to defend his title by five inches, 46-5 1/2 (14.16m) to 46-0 1/2 (14.03m).
