STORM LAKE, Iowa --- High winds made for very difficult scoring conditions Friday during the third round of the 2011 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Women's Golf Championship at Lake Creek Country Club.

Central senior Sarah Paulson fired an 87 and maintained her hold on the lead in the medalist race. Paulson, the 2008 and 2009 medalist, sits at 234 with 18 holes to play, five strokes ahead of Wartburg's Paige Klostermann and nine strokes clear of 2010 medalist Kelsi Sawatzky, also of Wartburg. Klostermann fired an 86 Friday while Sawatzky matched Paulson with an 87. Kylie Hammer of host Buena Vista is fourth at 251, one stroke ahead of Simpson's Stacy Bergeson and Loras' Abby Potts in fifth. Central's Ali Miller and Luther's Annika Ring are tied for seventh at 253. Wartburg's Morgan McMillin (256) and Simpson's Jennifer Gaffney (257) round out the top ten.

Bergeson fired the round of the day with an 80 to jump into the top five after starting the day in 19th place.

Wind gusts in excess of 40 miles per hour meant only seven of 44 golfers broke 90.

Wartburg (996) extended its lead in the team standings to nine strokes after posting the day's low team total with a 357. Central (1007) sits second followed by Luther (1039) and Simpson (1046) after all three schools posted team totals of 360 Friday.

The Championship concludes Saturday with a final 18 holes on the par-72 layout at Lake Creek. Coe, Dubuque, and Cornell tee off in the first flight beginning at 9 a.m., followed by players from Simpson, Buena Vista, and Loras at approximately 9:50 a.m. The final wave -- featuring players from Wartburg, Central, and Luther -- will take to the course beginning at approximately 10:40 a.m.
