STORM LAKE, IOWA . . . Steve Osterberger has resigned his position as head football coach at Buena Vista University to accept the head coaching position at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. He will begin his new duties at Loras early next week.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Buena Vista over the last ten years," Osterberger said. "President (Frederick V.) Moore and athletics director Jan Travis have been tremendous individuals with which to work. Buena Vista will always be a special place for me and my family."

Osterberger, a Dubuque native, compiled a record of 32-28 during his six seasons as the head coach at Buena Vista. The Beavers posted a record at or above the .500 mark five of the six years that Osterberger was at the helm. His winning percentage of .533 is the third-highest of any coach in school history who has coached at least 35 games.

"Coach Osterberger has led our football program with distinction and integrity," commented Moore. "He has been a wonderful mentor to all of the men who have played at Buena Vista. Susan and I wish Steve, Lisa and their family the best as they return to their roots."

Osterberger, the 2004 Iowa Conference Coach of the Year, coached a total of 28 all-conference players during his tenure at Buena Vista. He also had three players participate in the Aztec Bowl.

Osterberger joined the Beavers in February of 1996 as the team's offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator. He was promoted to the head coaching position when Joe Hadacheck resigned following the 1999 season.

"I want to thank my staff and players whom I have had the opportunity to work with over the years," Osterberger stated. "I appreciate all of the support we have received from the Storm Lake community. It has been a great experience."

"Steve has been a great colleague and a tremendous team player," said Travis. "He is a fantastic role model who demands excellence and accountability from the student-athletes in his program. I'm appreciative of the seven years I've had the opportunity to work with Steve."

Buena Vista is currently accepting applications for the head coaching position and the search will remain open until a successor is found.
