WAVERLY, IOWA . . . Wartburg College shot a final round 328 in unseasonably warm conditions at Centennial Oaks Golf Club to put the wraps on the school's fourth consecutive Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) women's golf title and its sixth title in seven years. The Knights also earn the Conference’s automatic berth in the 2011 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship next May. Wartburg sophomore Kelsi Sawatzky fired an 83 Saturday to win medalist honors with a 72-hole total of 319.
The host Knights (322-332-326-328—1,308), who placed all five individuals in the top-10, captured the team title by 43 strokes over Central (336-322-346-347—1,351), which finished second for the fourth consecutive year, while Luther (345-343-351-349—1,388) finished a distant third.
Sawatzky's four-day total of 77-82-77-83—319 left her 10 strokes clear of the rest of the field. Luther's Katie Gaudian (83-78-83-85—329) and Wartburg's Rebecca Lewis (86-81-79-83) each fired a four-day total of 329, but Gaudian took second place due to a cardback tiebreaker. Wartburg teammates Jordan Galles (77-86-87-81—331) and Paige Klostermann (85-83-83-81—332) carded 81s for the low round of the day and finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Central's Ali Miller (80-76-91-86—333) took sixth, just ahead of Buena Vista's Kylie Hammer (82-82-85-87—336) and Central's Kaurie Kincaid (77-82-76-92—337). Luther's Laura Davis (83-88-84-87—342) and Wartburg's Amy Kobliska (83-87-89-87—346) rounded out the top 10.
Galles captured All-Iowa Conference honors for the second time after finishing fifth a year ago.
Wartburg coach Monica Severson was named Iowa Conference Women's Golf Coach of the Year for the second time in three years.
