CEDAR FALLS, IOWA . . . It was a grind-it-out sort of day Saturday as players battled cool, windy conditions during the second round of the 2010 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Women's Golf Championship at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course. Central College's Ali Miller (80-76—156) fired the low round of the day with a 4-over-par 76 and will take a a three-shot lead over teammate Kaurie Kincaid (77-82—159) and Wartburg's Kelsi Sawatzky (77-82—159) into the Championship's final weekend.
Wartburg holds the 36-hole lead after posting a team total of 322-332—654. The Knights have all five players in the top 11 in the medalist standings. Central is second, just four shots back after firing a low team round of 322 Saturday en route to a 658 total.
Luther (345-343—688) is third followed by Loras (343-357—700). Coe (360-356—716), Buena Vista (358-359—717), Simpson (362-366—728), Dubuque (398-399—787), and Cornell (391-400—791) round out the field.
Individually, Luther's Katie Gaudian sits fourth, five shots behind Miller at 161, followed by first round co-leader Jordan Galles of Wartburg in fifth at 163. Buena Vista's Kylie Hammer is sixth at 164, one shot clear of Loras' Abby Potts. Wartburg's Rebecca Lewis (8th, 167) and Paige Klostermann (9th, 168), and Luther's Kate Traxler (10th, 169) round out the top 10.
The IIAC Championship continues Friday-Saturday, Oct. 8-9 at Centennial Oaks Golf Club in Waverly. Tee times begin at 10:00 a.m. with players from Simpson, Dubuque, and Cornell off in the first flight followed by golfers from Loras, Coe, and Buena Vista. The final flight will consist of golfers from Luther, Central, and Wartburg. Saturday’s tee times will be set using the 54-hole team scores with individual team lineups set by the 54-hole medalist leaderboard.
