High School Elkhorn Women’s Tennis – Player of the Week Becca Vala, Central College Jr., Omaha, Neb./Elkhorn Vala capped off an undefeated weekend of action and led the Dutch to a 2-0 week as a team. Central defeated St. Ambrose (7-0) and Simpson (7-2). At No. 2 doubles, Vala paired up with Jenna Mitsuko Mahoney to take down Paige Owens and Jenna Smithmeyer, of St. Ambrose, 6-3. At No. 4 singles, the junior defeated Smithmeyer 6-0, 6-0. Against Simpson, Mitsuko Mahoney and Vala teamed up again to take down Coilee Hynek and Maggie Hall 8-2. Competing at No. 4 singles again, Vala defeated Hall 6-0, 6-2. The Dutch are now 9-9 overall and finished their A-R-C regular season 4-4 in the fall to earn the No. 5 seed in the automatic qualifier tournament. The Omaha, Nebraska native is garnering her first career Women’s Tennis Player of the Week accolade and the first for Central since 2021.
