High School Galesburg Male Athlete of the Week – Men’s Basketball – Player of the Week Jaylin McCants, University of Dubuque Jr., G, Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg McCants led the (RV) University of Dubuque Spartans to a 4-0 stretch over the holiday break to stay undefeated at 11-0 on the season. The (RV) Spartans won the Hoops in Hawaii Classic with wins over 2023 NCAA Tournament participant, Whitworth University (71-58) and Lewis & Clark College (84-68). McCants was named the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament. The (RV) Dubuque Spartans continued their streak, winning the St. Norbert Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament with wins over UW-Superior (77-64) and St. Norbert College (83-73). McCants was named to the All-Tournament team. Over the course of the four games, the junior guard averaged 22.5 points per game and 8.25 rebounds per game. Additionally, McCants recorded nine assists and nine steals. With an 11-0 start to the season, the (RV) Dubuque Spartans have the fourth best start in school history. (RV) Dubuque sits with a 3-0 record in conference play as they head into a week where they host Wartburg College and Buena Vista University. McCants earned first-team All-Conference honors a season ago after being named to second team during his freshman campaign. This is the Galesburg, Illinois native’s third time earning Player of the Week honors in his career (1/2/24, 11/21/23, 12/12/22).
