Lydi O'Neil Award Female Athlete of the Week Week Of 11/21/2023 Sport American Rivers Conference School Nebraska Wesleyan University Year Freshman Position Hometown Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada High School Female Athlete of the Week – Women’s Swim & Dive – Performer of the Week Lydi O’Neil, Nebraska Wesleyan University Fr., Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada/Willow Creek Composite High School O’Neil and the Prairie Wolves competed at a top meet in the country at the University of Chicago over Friday – Sunday at the Phoenix Fall Classic. Competing was UChicago, St. Louis University, University of St. Thomas (Minn.), New York University, Truman State University, and Illinois Institute of Technology. The freshman made her mark breaking six Nebraska Wesleyan school records over her seven events. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the P-Wolves finished in tenth out of 18 relay teams with a time of 1:38.04, which was a school record. Her first individual school record came in the prelims of the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.15. She recorded a time of 24.60 in the finals to place tenth out of 20. The 400-yard medley relay and 200-yard medley relay also broke school records with times of 4:06.11 (18th out of 21) and 1:49.36 (12th out of 19), respectively. In the 100-yard butterfly, O’Neil hit the wall with a time of 1:00.26 to place 17th out of 20 swimmers. Her fifth school record came in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.36. O’Neil’s sixth and final school record on the weekend came in the 400-yard freestyle when she finished with a time of 3:40.7 to finish in 16th place out of 21. The Prairie Wolves finished the weekend in sixth place with 234 points. Nebraska Wesleyan now hits pause until January 19-20 when they travel to the Grinnell Invite. This is the freshman’s first time earning Performer of the Week honors.
