High School James Madison Female Athlete of the Week – Women’s Tennis – Player of the Week Maddie Schultz, Coe College Jr., Jasper, Ga./James Madison Schultz took home the gold medal for A-Singles at the 2023 A-R-C Women’s Tennis Individual Tournament in Cedar Rapids, Iowa over the weekend. The junior went a perfect 4-0 in this year’s A-Singles flight. Schultz was the number 1 seed for the tournament and received a bye in the first round. In the round of 16, she defeated Loras’ Leia Papanicholas (4-0, 4-1) before defeating Luther’s Julianna Mascardo (4-2, 4-1) in the quarterfinals on Friday night. Schultz earned her spot in the championship after a close match with Luther’s Abby Ostermann in the semifinals, defeating her 5-4(6), 5-3. In the championship match, Schultz defeated teammate Alliandra Hagness 4-1, 4-0 to cap off her undefeated weekend. Schultz is a two-time American Rivers Conference MVP. The Jasper, Georgia native is collecting her fifth-career Player of the Week honor (10/16/23, 10/10/23, 10/11/22, 9/6/22, 9/20/21).
