High School Platteview Baseball – Position Player of the Week Caden Mathewson, Buena Vista University Sr., OF/DH, Platteview, Neb./LaVista Mathewson and the Buena Vista Beavers picked up back-to-back A-R-C Regular Season titles this past weekend with a 2-1 record over Simpson College. The senior outfielder had a hit in each game of the three-game weekend series against Simpson, including a career-best five base knocks in the series finale on Sunday afternoon. Mathewson’s big hit came in the fifth inning of that game when he connected for a grand slam to give BVU a 10-3 cushion. Over the three-game span, Mathewson hit a team-best .583 with seven RBIs. His batting average during conference play is a league-best .464 over 69 at-bats. Game 1: Buena Vista 7, Simpson 1 – 1-for-3 (.333), BB Game 2: Simpson 10, Buena Vista 8 – 1-for-4 (.250), R, 2 RBI, HBP Game 3: Buena Vista 16, Simpson 6 (7 inn.) – 5-for-5 (1.000), 2 R, 5 RBI, HR The Beavers finished the regular season with a 29-7 overall mark while claiming the conference title with a 20-3 record in A-R-C play. Buena Vista has off until the conference tournament begins on May 11th. Mathewson was named to the A-R-C First Team All-Conference team after his performance in 2021. The Platteview, Nebraska native is picking up his first-career Position Player of the Week honor.
