High School Higley Baseball – Pitcher of the Week Mason Gehling, Buena Vista University Jr., RHP, Chandler, Ariz./Higley Gehling and the Buena Vista Beavers went 4-0 in conference play during the week. The junior right-hander pitched 8.0 innings of relief, allowing just one run while striking out eight batters. In the first two innings of relief against Nebraska Wesleyan, Gehling struck out five of the six batters faced. Gehling recorded his fourth win of the season after coming out of the pen with two outs in the top of the first inning against Coe. The Beavers were down 5-0 and Gehling pitched 6.0 innings, allowing just one run to come across while striking out three batters. The right-hander for the Beavers only surrendered one walk in 32 batters faced this week. Buena Vista improved to 24-5 overall and 15-1 in league play. The Beavers will take the field on Tuesday, April 18 in Pella for the third game of the three-game series against Central. Gehling earned First Team All-Conference honors a year ago. The Chandler, Arizona native is garnering his third-career Pitcher of the Week honor (4/17/23, 5/2/22, 2/24/20).
