High School United Township Women’s Tennis – Player of the Week Reese Williams, Wartburg College Fr., Rock Island, Ill./United Township The Wartburg Knights went 2-0 on the week, defeating Martin Luther (9-0) and Wisconsin Lutheran (8-1) and losing to Edgewood (1-8). Williams started the week with an 8-5 victory over Martin Luther’s Abigail Schewe and Katie Kutz at No. 3 doubles with partner Bailey Sinnwell. She picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles as she defeated Martin Luther’s Charis Glende. Moving up to No. 2 doubles, Williams partnered with Georgia Nissen and defeated Wisconsin Lutheran’s Sky Pope and Izzy Hawley 8-5. The first year for the Knights picked up a hard-fought victory, defeating Wisconsin Lutheran’s Ali Schmidt 6-2, 7-6(1) at the No. 4 singles spot. Continuing play at No. 2 doubles with Nissen, the duo lost 8-2 to Edgewood’s Maddy Coopmans and Jewel Lindwall. Williams scored the lone team point for the Knights as she defeated Edgewood’s Ellie Murphy at No. 4 singles 6-4, 2-6, 10-2. The Rock Island, Illinois native is garnering her first career Women’s Tennis Player of the week accolades.
