High School Galesburg Men’s Basketball – Player of the Week Jaylin McCants, University of Dubuque So., G, Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg McCants helped the UD Spartans go 2-0 during the week with back-to-back home victories over Augustana (65-59) and Nebraska Wesleyan (69-65 OT). The sophomore guard led the Spartans to a comeback win over Augustana by scoring 18 points, grabbing six rebounds, and recording two blocks. McCants paced UD to another home victory against conference opponent, Nebraska Wesleyan, in overtime, with 21 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. He found himself at the charity stripe 21 times during the game, making 15 of them to finish with a 70% free throw percentage. The Galesburg native shot 50% from the field, while averaging 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 19.5 points per game. The Spartans improved to 8-2 overall and 3-1 in A-R-C play. McCants is a 2021-22 Second-Team All-Conference performer. This is the sophomore’s first-time earning Player of the Week and Male Athlete of the Week honors in his career.
