Kayla Breunig Award Pitcher of the Week Week Of 3/15/2021 Sport Softball School University of Dubuque Year Junior Position Pitcher Hometown Mazomanie, Wisconsin High School Sauk Prairie Softball – Pitcher Player of the Week Kayla Breunig, University of Dubuque Jr., P, Mazomanie, Wis./Sauk Prairie Breunig tossed Dubuque’s first no-hitter of the season in the shutout victory over Greenville on Friday, March 12 in Dubuque. The Spartans defeated the Panthers 9-0 in five innings behind the junior’s performance in the circle. Breunig allowed no runs, no hits, and was a lone hit batter away from a perfect game and the team had no errors on the day. She struck out two of the 16 batters she faced as the Spartans improve to 5-1 overall on the season. Game 1: Dubuque 9, Greenville 0 (F/5) – W, GC (shutout), 5.0 IP, 2 K, 0 BB, 0 H, 1 HBP, 16 batters faced. The Mazomanie, Wis. native is the first Spartan to earn Softball Pitcher of the Week accolades. This is Breunig’s first-career Pitcher of the Week recognition.
