Kate Messino (McHenry, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) of the University of Dubuque was voted 2018 American Rivers Conference Freshman of the Year. First-year Spartan, Messino was a key component to UD’s No.2 seed in this year’s conference tournament. Messino averaged 10.21 assists/set during conference play to rank fourth. Her 3.42 digs/set and .27 service aces/set ranked in the league’s top-20. In 30 matches this season the McHenry, Ill. native averaged 10.06 assists, which ranks 38th in NCAA Division III. Her total assists number of 1,107 ranks 12th nationally.
