High School Illini West Men’s Indoor Track & Field – Field Performer of the Week Blaze Murfin, University of Dubuque Grad., Dallas City, Ill./Illini West Murfin turned in first-place performances in the shot put and weight through at the NCAA Division II Minnesota State Mark Schuck Invite. His winning the shot put mark of 16.82m/55-2.25 came in a field of 33 competitors. Murfin already owns the best shot put mark in NCAA Division III (17.49m/57-4.75), however the mark established over the weekend was third-best in Division III this season. In the weight throw Murfin’s winning toss of 20.39m/6-10.75 cam in a field of 38 competitors. His weight throw mark matched his own school record and leads NCAA Division III. His 20 points helped a split UD team to a 6th-place (out of 12 teams) finish, besting numerous scholarship schools. At the 2018 Conference Indoor Championships, Murfin was voted Field Performer of the Year. A season ago Murfin took 3rd in both the shot put and weight throw at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships. Murfin is earning his eighth Indoor Track & Field – Field Performer of the Week accolade (1/28/19, 1/21/19, 12/10/18, 2/25/18, 2/11/18, 1/19/17, 1/22/17, 2/8/16).
