His winning shot put mark of 16.92m/55-06.25 ranks first in the American Rivers Conference and NCAA Division III. At the 2018 Conference Indoor Championships, Murfin was voted Field Performer of the Year. A season ago Murfin took 3rd in both the shot put and weight throw at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships.
