Tate, a junior 197-pounder, went 6-0 during the week with four falls. He pinned Central's Dan Gordon and received a forfeit against Loras as the Knights opened the Iowa Conference dual season with a pair of victories. At the Simpson Invitational, Tate pinned his first three opponents before topping Ryan Malo of Williams, 6-4 in overtime, in the championship final en route to being named the meet's Outstanding Wrestler. The bout was a rematch of last year's national championship match won 8-5 by Tate.
