Beard, a sophomore, finished second of 40 runners in the annual dual between Luther and Wisconsin-La Crosse. He completed the 4-mile course in 21:33.9, 12 seconds back of the individual champion. The schools, who have met in a dual annually since 1955, tied with 28 points apiece – the first draw in 57 meetings.
