Wessels, a freshman utility player, extended his hitting streak to nine games by recording a hit in each of Buena Vista's six games last week. He posted a .577 average with 15 hits in 26 at-bats, including three doubles, nine RBI and eight runs scored for a .692 slugging percentage. Wessels was also successful on his only steal attempt of the week and made only one error in 25 chances defensively. He had a career-high four RBI in the second game of a 4-game series against Wartburg (an 8-7 loss) and a career-high four hits in the finale, a 16-12 loss where the Beavers outslugged the Knights, 21-13. Wessels leads all IIAC players in doubles and ranks second in both batting average and hits after missing all of last season following ligament replacement (Tommy John) surgery.
