Horton, a sophomore, won the men's individual title and was named the league's Most Valuable Runner at the 2012 Iowa Conference Cross Country Championships. He covered the 8-kilometer Noelridge Park course in 25:21.5, winning by 15 seconds over teammate Cole Decker and leading the Dutch to their first Iowa Conference men's cross country title. Horton, who finished 11th a year ago, captured his second all-conference honor. He also became the fifth Dutch male runner to capture the IIAC individual crown, totaling seven titles, and was the first since Andy Goodman won the second of his two titles in 1994.
