Paired together for just the second time this season, Newman, a junior, and senior Victor Khristenko won a pair of matches at No. 3 doubles to help Coe to the 2012 Iowa Conference men’s tennis title. The pair defeated Dubuque’s Nikolay Gospodinov and Shawn Iben, 8-1, in the semifinals, then outlasted Luther’s Aaron Gendron and Tyler Zinnecker, 8-4, in the championship match. Newman also figured significantly into the team result in singles, picking up wins over Gospodinov (6-0, 6-0) and Luther’s Matt Bellio (6-0, 7-5) at No. 5 singles to improve to 23-6 overall.
