Newman, a junior, won three matches at No. 5 singles and two matches at No. 3 doubles for the Kohawks last week. He defeated Cornell’s Neal Klauer (6-0, 6-2), Luther’s Matt Bellio (6-7, 7-5, 1-0 (5)) and Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Erik Scanlan (6-2, 6-1). In doubles play, he paired with Michael Janssen for an 8-1 win against Cornell and an 8-2 loss to Luther. Against Wisconsin-Whitewater, he paired with Victor Khristenko for an 8-5 victory. His singles win against Whitewater’s Scanlan tied the match at 4-4 before the Kohawks earned a win at No. 6 singles for the victory.
