Sterns, a freshman, won three individual events in a 169-119 dual loss to Grinnell Feb. 4. She won the 1,000 freestyle in 11 minutes, 30.6 seconds, swimming a lifetime best by nearly four seconds. Her time of 2:23.8 in the 200 backstroke also bettered her personal best by nearly three seconds. Sterns took the 100 butterfly in 1:07.3, missing her personal best by one-hundredth of a second.
