Zweifel, a senior wide receiver, caught 15 passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns in a 45-0 victory over Luther October 29. With his 12th catch of the game, he eclipsed the NCAA all-divisions career receptions record of 436 set by Scott Pingel of Westminster (Mo.) in 1999. He also broke his own Iowa Conference single-season records for receptions (88) and receiving yards (1,236) set in 2009. Heading into the Spartans’ regular-season finale at Coe, Zweifel has 95 receptions in league play for 1,329 yards. The Spartans shut out an opponent for the first time since blanking Rockford, 38-0, in 2007. The last Spartan shutout in IIAC play came in 1995 against William Penn (39-0). It was also the largest margin-of-victory in a shutout since blanking Upper Iowa 51-0 in 1979. (IIAC co-Male Athlete of the Week)
