Tobben, a junior, became Cornell’s first Iowa Conference cross country champion, outdistancing the 146-man field by 10 seconds. He is the first Ram to claim a conference title in cross country since 1993, when Kelly Lear was crowned women's champion in the Midwest Conference. The last Cornell male runner to grab conference gold was Tony Every in 1990. Tobben completed the 8,000-meter course in 26:28, leading the Rams to a third-place team finish, the best for Cornell since joining the IIAC in 1997.
